Fins and finish board

Wow, what a project. i took the board out a few days ago in double overhead waves(BIG) and it surfed great... I made the front rails a bit hard, so I reshaped them rounder, but other than that, its a super board... I overbuilt the board and it comes in at 35#, heavy for sure, but it glides through the sections and surfs like a dream...

I have started my new 10' longboard. I got deal on some cheap cedar, and its going to weigh around 22#, the same as my waterlogged 10' glass board..

Glassing

I bought a off brand Dupont epoxy, very reasonable. about the same price as Poly. 2-6oz layers on top and one one the bottom.

Adding fins and hot coat next.

selling two of my favorite boards

I had to sell off two of my favorite boards to buy the wood for the next project a 10'2" noserider.. I doubt I will ever surf a board another board unless I made it..Its lots of work, but rewarding

finish sanding, Thats what I think

sanding and more sanding

Gisle helping plane out the tail

cuts for nose and tail blocks

Very unnatural cutting into your board. As you can see I removed some material.

sanded board

planing and sanding

Lots of sanding and planing 8 days worth.. About 6 to 8 hours a day... You can see a small pile of shavings... Its because I had slats of different thicknesses. Thinking I will just sand them out, yea right.. never make that mistake again.

Wooden surfboard

This summer funds were kind of tight, so we decided to skip our annual camping trip in Colorado...

I have been surfing most days, for you that dont know, the summer is my slow season, so I dont book myself and let the guys work... It means more time with my family and friends...

To keep myself busy, I have been building my first wooden surfboard... I needed help as I have zero wood skills. I found Chad online at timeless surf. Chad has been there for every turn of the way, I bet I emailed him 2 or 3 times a day with questions. He gets back to e right away and off I go on another tangent..

Anyway, here are the pictures of my 9' 2" high performance longboard from start to almost finished( Laminating glassed)...I have about $100 in wood and about $160 in epoxy and glass...the rest is in about 200 man hours. Lots and lots of gluing and sanding...

I already love this game, so I have sold two of my regular surfboards to start my new board...10'2".

Gotta give most of the credit to Chad, I couldn't have done this without him.
